# Recolor

This is an operator in the [Texture Editor](/scanning-and-tiling/texture-editor.md). It is assumed that you are familiar with the basics of the Texture Editor before using this operator.

It is now possible to recolor materials based on another image or a single color, with a few clicks. The recolor operator has two options to recolor a material based on:

* Reference image
* Picked color

To get started select the *Recolor* option from the operator menu:

### Recoloring Based on Reference Image

In this option you just need to simply upload a reference image and the platform will take compute the target statistics to get the most optimal recoloring:

### Recolor Based on Value

It is also possible to give a single RGB, HSL or HEX value to use for recoloring. To do this you just need to switch to the Color Picker tab and select a value in the color picker:

## Settings

Below both options you can change after the recoloring is applied:

* Luminance: Controls how much of the original texture’s brightness (luminance) is retained in the recolored result.
* Color Intensity: Controls the strength of the color (chrominance) applied to the texture.
* Fade: Blends between the original texture and the recolored texture. At lower values, more of the original texture is visible; at higher values, more of the recolored version is applied.
